Our Expert Practitioners
Charlie
Charlie is a fully qualified Sports Massage Therapist (ITEC), licensed Acupuncturist (BSc) and qualified Deep Tissue Massage Therapist, with more than 15 years of experience working in hands-on therapeutic practice, musculoskeletal wellbeing and holistic healthcare. He also holds a Diploma in Tuina, a traditional Chinese system of therapeutic massage and bodywork.
His approach combines Sports Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, acupuncture and traditional hands-on therapies, allowing treatments to be adapted to the individual, their lifestyle, activity levels and reasons for seeking treatment. Over the course of his career, Charlie has worked with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, from runners, cyclists, gym-goers and recreational athletes to people experiencing muscular tension and stiffness associated with work, stress and everyday life.
Sports Massage
As a fully qualified Sports Massage Therapist (ITEC), Charlie has extensive experience using Sports Massage to support active people as well as those experiencing muscular tightness, soreness, fatigue and general physical tension.
Sports Massage is a focused form of massage that can be adapted according to an individual's activity levels, occupation and physical demands. Sessions can range from targeted work on a particular muscular area to more general massage designed to address widespread tightness and promote relaxation and physical wellbeing.
For people who exercise regularly, Sports Massage can be incorporated into their wider training and recovery routine. Treatment may focus on areas that feel particularly tight or heavily loaded through running, cycling, gym training, sport or other physical activity. Sessions can also be useful for people whose work involves prolonged sitting, repetitive activity, manual work or other demands that contribute to muscular tension.
Charlie places particular importance on understanding the individual's activities and what they hope to achieve from massage. This allows each session to be tailored rather than following a standardised routine.
People commonly choose Sports Massage for:
- Muscular tightness and stiffness
- Tired or sore muscles following exercise
- General aches associated with physical activity
- Demanding training periods
- Pre- and post-event massage
- Recovery between training sessions
- Maintaining comfortable movement
- Muscular tension associated with desk-based or repetitive work
- General physical maintenance and wellbeing
- Relaxation alongside more focused muscular work
Deep Tissue Massage
Charlie is also a qualified Deep Tissue Massage Therapist. Deep Tissue Massage provides a more focused approach for people who prefer firmer pressure or who experience persistent areas of muscular tightness and tension.
Treatment can incorporate slow, deliberate massage techniques and sustained or targeted pressure to work with deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. As with Sports Massage, the intensity is individually adapted and should not simply be equated with increasingly heavy pressure.
Deep Tissue Massage may be particularly suited to people experiencing recurrent muscular tightness associated with physical activity, prolonged sitting, repetitive work or everyday physical demands, as well as those who simply prefer a firmer style of massage.
Acupuncture & Tuina
Charlie is a licensed Acupuncturist (BSc) and holds a Diploma in Tuina, giving him extensive training in traditional Chinese therapeutic approaches alongside his massage qualifications.
Depending on the service booked and the client's preferences, acupuncture or Tuina may provide an alternative or complementary approach to massage. His broad training enables him to offer treatments ranging from targeted Sports and Deep Tissue Massage through to traditional acupuncture and Chinese bodywork.
